Phoenix is also known as the Valley of the Sun and is the 5th largest population in the United States. It averages over 300 days of sunshine a year. Other than the mountains in and around the city, Phoenix is generally flat, allowing the city’s main streets to run on a precise grid with wide, open-spaced roadways. The area is split generally between its south, central, and northern parts, with locals referring to these areas as simply “South Phoenix” for example. Neighboring towns like Scottsdale and Mesa to the east and Glendale directly to the west of the city often get lumped into the area. There are so many fun things to do in Phoenix, from exploring top-notch museums like the Heard Museum, Children's Museum of Phoenix and Musical Museum to seeing interesting and unique architecture, learning about the beauty of the desert, and checking out the Desert Botanica Gardens, hiking the many mountains in and around the city like Camelback and South Mountain to enjoying, restaurants, shopping, golf, resorts, pools & spas. Winter is the most popular time for visitors, but you can find fun all year round. Some of the top employers include The State of Arizona, Bank of America, Wal Mart, Banner Heath, Wells Fargo, Intel, US Airways, American Express and JPMorgan Chase. There are many different school opportunities for all ages. In the Phoenix Metro, most areas have choices of public schools, charter schools, and private schools. Some popular neighborhood communities are Ahwatukee Foothills, Paradise Valley Village, Desert View, North Gateway, Deer Valley, North Mountain, Camelback East, Encanto, Laveen, Rio Vista, Al Hambra and South Mountain. There are many Historic districts for housing as well.
